Come on Ubisoft!
Things are not looking… fine for Ubisoft. I wanted to say good, but it is not even fine anymore. Take a look below at the stock price:
Especially since the latest stuff that has been going on. Assassins Creed Shadows should have been the savior game for Ubisoft. An AC game in Japan. I have been asking 10 years for that game already. And there it is. Even Ubisoft said to their investors that the game would do very well.
However, from what I hear, the game is mediocre. It looks stunning but it has no soul. Its loaded with microtransactions, maybe in the hopes to increase their revenue a bit. That didn’t land well with the player base (why haven't they learned from the feedback). I didn't play Shadows, so I won't go into the details too much as that really is not fair. But I'm not gonna try it too.
So what are the memorable games from the last couple of years from Ubisoft? I liked The Division 2 a lot. It was a very fun game to explore with friends. Assassins Creed Odyssey is also a game I played quite a lot, like 90 hours or so on PS4.
For PS5, I only have played Rainbow Six Siege I think, one of the few games that still do great.
The other games that came out all had quite mixed reviews (but very high hopes and expectations beforehand!) and then it isn't really worth my time as I don't have that much time to game lately. For example: Skull and Bones, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars Outlaws, XDefiant, The Crew Motorfest.
I don't feel like, damn I really want to play those games.
I do feel that with Black Myth: Wukong, Kingdom Come deliverance 2, Monster Hunter Wilds. Even more indie games like Dredge, Wildermyth and Nine Sols.
In one way, there is enough to play, but it also is sad that a beloved game publisher is constantly annoying it's player base and not releasing banger after banger.
Who knows what will happen. I really hope Ubisoft will be taken over by another group (not Tencent), like Sony. Finding someone that wants to buy a burning ship will be difficult but it has happened before, like Twitter.
For now, we pray for good things at Ubisoft as there are many people working there and otherwise they all will lose their jobs. Release a good game! Come on, Ubisoft!
